# Mainnet vs devnet

Inferra runs on two Solana networks from the same codebase.

**Mainnet** is the real marketplace. Rentals and provider bonds settle in USDC, the protocol fee is 2%, and everything you pay is real money moving through the on-chain escrow.

**Devnet** is a sandbox. It runs the full experience, renting a machine, taking delivery over SSH, listing capacity as a provider, but with sandbox tokens instead of real funds, so you can try the whole flow before touching real money.

<table data-search="false"><thead><tr><th></th><th>Mainnet</th><th>Devnet sandbox</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Settles in</td><td>USDC</td><td>Sandbox tokens</td></tr><tr><td>Rental fee</td><td>2%</td><td>Lower, for the sandbox</td></tr><tr><td>Purpose</td><td>Real rentals</td><td>Try it out</td></tr></tbody></table>

The marketplace, the escrow, and the delivery of a real machine work the same way on both. The difference is the network and whether the money is real.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://inferra.gitbook.io/inferra-docs/reference/mainnet-vs-devnet.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
